Section of Whistler's Valley Trail to remain closed until Oct. 7

The Millar Creek Valley Trail is closed to accommodate sewer main and manholes upgrades.

UPDATE: The RMOW announced Sept. 23 that the Millar Creek section of Whistler's Valley Trail will remain closed to pedestrians and cyclists until Oct. 7, one week longer than initially expected, to accommodate ongoing construction.

The section of Whistler's Valley Trail connecting Function Junction with Alta Lake Road will be closed to users for most of the next month.

According to a construction notice issued by the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW), the Millar Creek Valley Trail will remain closed between Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Friday, Sept. 30— including weekends— to accommodate upgrades to the existing sewer main and manholes.

When the section of trail opens on Sept. 30, pedestrians and cyclists should still expect delays until Oct. 21, the municipality warned.

Signs will be posted in the affected areas and traffic control staff will be posted on-site to help manage traffic flow. "Pedestrians and cyclists will be directed to walk around the work areas marked by traffic cones while maintaining physical distance from workers and other trail users," the RMOW explained in a Facebook post.

The construction project will see the area's sewer main and manholes lined with a material that prevents corrosion, extending the life of the existing infrastructure.
