The Pemberton & District Museum and Archives Society is digging into the community’s potato-growing roots with a special edition of its weekly Toonie Tea on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in celebration of National Potato Day.
For $2 admission, visitors can enjoy an afternoon filled with potato-themed games, treats and live entertainment—along with a lively history talk by local farmers Anna Helmer and Michelle Beks. The pair will share stories about Pemberton’s long-standing reputation as a potato powerhouse.
The event runs all day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with “potato games” available for families to enjoy. The traditional Toonie Tea service takes place between 2 and 4 p.m. at the museum grounds on Prospect Street.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, local ukelele duo Highly Strung will perform live music—including a few spud-inspired songs.
The Toonie Tea series is a summer staple at the museum, offering visitors homemade treats and tea alongside special performances and stories from invited musicians and local raconteurs every Tuesday afternoon. Upcoming sessions include b.daddy & the Coconut on Aug. 26 and additional speakers into September.
