The May long weekend might look a little different this year, but the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) still wants you to celebrate the great outdoors.
GO Fest, virtual edition, officially kicks off on Friday, May 21 and runs until Monday, May 24 with a variety of arts, music, sports, and education sessions streaming online.
“We’ve been planning for a virtual version of GO Fest for some time,” says Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton. “Due to the non-essential travel restrictions we decided to bring GO Fest to your backyard this year.”
Most of the sessions have been pre-recorded and are streaming throughout the weekend for viewers to watch at their convenience.
“A lot of it was made specifically for the festival, though we did tap into some of the programming that was made for the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in April,” Crompton says.
Sessions range from preparing for a multi-day hike to forest bathing, kids storytime, and various gardening topics.
On the arts front, tune in for sessions on painting Whistler landscapes, making a dreamcatcher, and creating dried floral arrangements.
“They’re available all weekend on the YouTube Go Fest channel, the RMOW YouTube channel,” Crompton says. “It is the Great Outdoors Festival, so I encourage people to get outdoors rain or shine. It looks like it’s going to be beautiful.”
