Volunteers help the Whistler Half Marathon hit the ground running.

The Whistler Half Marathon is seeking volunteers in its final sprint before hosting runners from May 31 to June 1.

Available positions include package pick-up representatives before the big event, course marshals, water-station attendants, food preparers and finish-line operators. Volunteers will have fun while giving back over shifts that range from four to five hours, and they get gifts from corporate sponsors for helping the organizers run the event.

Volunteers can apply online or email volunteer coordinator Leanne Turkington for more information.

The event incorporates distances for many demographics, from a 30-kilometre and a half-marathon race to a 10-, five-, and one-kilometre kids run. While almost all races are sold out, kids can still register in the one-kilometre race.

Day 1 of the event includes race package pick ups and a course orientation seminar at Whistler Olympic Plaza before racers get off to an early start on June 1, with events starting at 7:10 a.m. and culminating before 11 a.m. with an athlete celebration.

The races follow pavement and gravel trails at Lost Lake Park and end at Whistler Olympic Plaza.

Presented by Smartwool, the event supports Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
