The Vancouver Police Department has laid charges following a recent fight in East Vancouver sent one to hospital with several serious stab wounds.

The Vancouver Police Department has laid charges after a fight last week sent a man to hospital with several serious stab wounds.

VPD investigators believe the stabbing occurred last Friday afternoon, near Main and Hastings, after a confrontation between two men outside Carnegie Centre, according to a recent media release. Although the incident was not immediately reported to police, officers began investigating after the victim showed up at hospital with several serious stab wounds.

“Officers who work in the Downtown Eastside immediately launched an investigation and were quickly able to identify a suspect, who was arrested near Main and Hastings later that day,” said Sergeant Steve Addison, VPD. “The victim is now recovering from his injuries.”

Alexander Alvarez, 50, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
