Runners competing in Saturday, June 3's 2023 Whistler Half Marathon are in store for a warm, sunny race day.

There are still 19 days left until summer officially begins in B.C., but Whistler's extended season preview is set to continue.

Mother Nature is ushering in the first weekend of June with clear, sunny skies and temperatures in the low- to mid-20s for the resort.

Environment Canada's forecast calls for a high of 23 degrees C in Whistler on Friday, June 2. Temperatures are anticipated to remain steady through Saturday—ideal conditions for this weekend's Whistler Half Marathon—before dropping slightly to a high of 19 C on Sunday.

Things will cool down significantly when the sun sets at around 9:15 p.m. this weekend, with overnight lows in Whistler falling to around 5 C on Friday evening, 8 C on Saturday and just 4 C for Sunday.

The heat will pick up once the workweek kicks off, with temperatures predicted to escalate to a high of 29 C in Whistler on Wednesday, June 29. The Sea to Sky's dry spell is also expected to continue well into June, with no clouds or precipitation in the forecast for at least the next week. With that in mind, the BC Wildfire Service has rated fire danger as "high" in the Whistler area for Friday and Saturday, but expects to see that rating rise to "extreme" by Sunday.

A fire ban remains in effect.

As per usual, conditions will feel even hotter in Pemberton, where Saturday, June 3's high is expected to reach 28 C.

If those forecasted temperatures pan out, Whistler's weekend will only be slightly warmer than usual this time of year. The typical daily high in Whistler on June 2 is 17.8 C, according to Environment Canada's records, while the average daily low is listed as 5.6 C.

The hottest June 2 on record took place in 1978, when the mercury spiked to 30.7 C. Whistler recorded its coldest June 2 in 1994, when temperatures in the resort dropped to a frosty 0.5 C.

Don't forget to slather on the SPF before heading out the door: Saturday's UV index in Whistler is rated as 8, or very high.
