After 17 long months holding all public meetings over Zoom, Whistler’s mayor and council will return to the Maury Young Arts Centre (MYAC) on Sept. 7.

The in-person council meetings will be in compliance with current public health orders, which means mask-wearing requirements, capacity limits and separate entrances and exits will be in effect.

A maximum of 125 people will be permitted in the MYAC theatre and 26 in the gallery, where meetings will be broadcast on televisions.

The public can also watch live streams of meetings at whistler.ca/councilmeetings, though meetings will no longer be broadcast on Zoom.

The first meetings to be held in person since April 2020 will be the Sept. 7 Committee of the Whole (beginning at 2 p.m.) followed by the regular council meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Though the B.C. government announced a new vaccine card policy for non-essential services last week, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is still reviewing what the policy means for public meetings.

“This is under careful review to understand the implications on public meetings and to ensure the public has fair access to information and municipal decision-making,” the RMOW said in a release.

“More information will be shared as it becomes available.”
