Then five-year-old Michael McSkimming joined Const. Erik Jakobsen in his Red Serge uniform to help get the word out about the Pack the Cruiser food drive in 2018.

It’s the giving season, and the Whistler RCMP and Whistler Fire Rescue Service have teamed up once again to offer locals another way to give back to those in need.

The two organizations are hosting a holiday food and toy drive at Fresh St. Market on Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where attendees can drop off new toys, gift cards and food to “pack the cruiser and stuff the fire truck,” according to a release. All food will be donated to the Whistler Food Bank and other items to the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS).

In the release, the RCMP urged locals to challenge their coworkers and other businesses to get in on the giving after a year that saw demand for WCSS’ outreach services and food bank steadily rise.

“[W]e are excited to help their team to contribute to the health and wellness of our town,” police said in the release.

Anyone unable to attend the drive can drop off items before or after the event at the Whistler RCMP detachment, located in the village at 4315 Blackcomb Way.
