Whistler RCMP investigating 'serious injury' on Valley Trail

RCMP say they 'don’t believe there is a risk to the public at this time'

The Whistler RCMP is investigating after receiving reports of a male with a "serious injury" on Friday afternoon—but don’t believe there is a risk to the public at this time.

According to a sparsely-detailed release, police "received a report of a male with a serious injury" just after 4 p.m. on Feb. 16.

Whistler RCMP attended the scene along with BC Ambulance Service and RCMP Police Dog Services, the release said. The male was transported to hospital. His condition is unknown.

“At this time the incident appears to be isolated, however the investigation is ongoing,” said Cst. Katrina Boehmer, media relations officer for the Sea to Sky RCMP, in the release.

The release did not say where the incident occurred, how the man was injured, or how severely, but a post in the Whistler Winter Facebook group on Feb. 16 noted a heavy police presence and a "big area taped off on/near the Valley Trail across the road from Nesters," while commenters theorized it was a stabbing.

Asked for more specifics, Boehmer said police will provide more details when/if they become available.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to solvecrime.ca.
