The second Crankworx event of the year is underway in Innsbruck, Austria.
The Oakley Official Alpine Whip-Off Championships was slated to kick off the proceedings on June 13 but was postponed to June 15 because of inclement weather.
The Whip-Off will not be webcast, but remaining events will all be webcast at www.crankworx.com, starting with the RockShox Innsbruck Pump Track Challenge at 11 a.m. on June 14, the Mons Royale Dual Speed & Style Innsbruck at 8:30 a.m. on June 15, the Crankworx Innsbruck Slopestyle at 6:30 a.m. on June 16 and the iXS Innsbruck Downhill at 6:30 a.m. on June 17.
Participants will then head to France for Crankworx Les Gets from June 20 to 24.
Whistler Secondary track team shines at provincials
Whistler Secondary School's (WSS) Nils Prica was a standout among strong performances at the 2018 BC High School Track and Field Championship in Langley earlier this month.
Prica posted a fifth-place finish in the senior men's high jump in WSS' closest grasp at the podium.
Meanwhile, Elisabet Aarre finished just out of the top 10 in senior women's shot put, taking 11th. In the triple jump, Charlie McCullough put up a personal best en route to taking 18th in the Grade 8 women's event, while Michael Murdoch put up his own personal best in the senior men's event as he took 21st. Both WSS entries in the senior women's 200-metre dash set new best times as Stefanie Tomcheck and Aarre took 19th and 20th, respectively.
Lastly, the senior 4-by-100-metre relay teams stood tall, with the senior girls placing 15th overall and the senior boys taking 20th.
Spirit of Sarah Scholarship awarded
For the first time ever, a European skier has been awarded the Spirit of Sarah Scholarship.
Momentum Camps announced on June 6 that 14-year-old Scottish skier Kirsty Muir will receive a full package to one of Momentum's youth sessions this summer. The scholarship is awarded in memory of Sarah Burke, a freestyle skier who died after a tragic skiing accident in 2012. Burke was a former camper and longtime coach at Momentum.
In a release, Momentum complimented Muir not only for her "progressive and determined approach toward skiing" but also for her "genuinely uplifting and positive attitude"—a trademark of Burke's personality.
"We greatly look forward to meeting Kirsty and helping her progress towards her skiing dreams. Sarah was a longtime camper and coach with Momentum and it's important for us to keep her memory alive with this ongoing scholarship. She was a great advocate of women in sport and a true role model to young girls," camp director John Smart said in the release.
Muir, who started skiing at the age of three and has done most of her skiing on a plastic slope, hopes to eventually compete in the Winter X Games, at the Dew Tour and ultimately, at the Winter Olympic Games.
Momentum's 2018 slate of camps kicked off on June 9 and will run until July 13.
Tougher Mudder West Championships coming this weekend
Some of North America's baddest men and women will be coming to Whistler Olympic Park this weekend in search of Seattle.
As part of the seventh annual Tough Mudder event on June 16 and 17, the Tougher Mudder West Championships will send the top 25 men and top 25 women on to the Tough Mudder World Championships in Washington state this September.
Each division's winners will earn $2,500 while the second- and third-place finishers will receive $1,000 and $500, respectively.
Though fitness pros will be vying for results at the start of the line, the 16-kilometre obstacle course is primarily a cooperative event for amateur athletes.

Pemberton Speedway to hold first race
It's a little later than anticipated, but Pemberton Speedway will see its first official action of the season this Saturday.
A practice weekend went off without a hitch in May, but the planned first race last month was rained out.
As a result, there will be racing two consecutive weekends, with the cars set to shift into gear at 5:30 p.m. on both June 16 and June 23.

RIDE WITH THE PROS ON JUNE 22
A pair of local riders will encourage the next generation with a free ride on June 22.
In advance of the Canada Cup races here, Julia Long and Chrissy de Vall of TaG Cycling will host a Ride Like A Girl event on the course.
Female riders of all abilities aged 10 to 17 are invited to take part. The event starts at Base II at 3:30 p.m. and runs until 5:30 p.m.
