Jacqueline Chapman in as PVHA president, Sarah Hancock assumes treasurer role

Change is afoot in the Pemberton Valley Horse Association (PVHA) now that two of its progenitors, Caleb Smith and Caitlin Cairns, have stepped away. 

Replacing Smith as president is Jacqueline Chapman, while Sarah Hancock takes up the mantle of treasurer. 

The organization's July newsletter elaborates: "the PVHA extends a big thank you to Caleb Smith for his work as president and founding member of the PVHA. While Caleb is moving on to focus on his professional responsibilities, we're very thankful for his continued dedication and contributions to the horse community of Pemberton. The PVHA also sends a big thank you to our outgoing treasurer and founding member Caitlin Cairns for her outstanding work and dedication in getting this organization off the ground, and we wish her all the best as she moves on to new exciting projects.

"Both [Jacqueline and Sarah] bring a wealth of horse experience, commitment, and expertise to their positions. We're thankful for all the contributions of our volunteers and community members - each of you make a difference to the Pemberton horse community." 

The newsletter also acknowledges the retirement of Dave Gilmour, a local farrier who has been operating since 1974. 

"I figure I worked on about 1000 horses a year, multiply that by 50 years, maybe subtract a few...let's say about 40,000 horses," Gilmour said in an interview with the PVHA. "The best part has been all the people I've met. We're planning to do some travelling, and then maybe settle on the Island or the Sunshine Coast."
