Lumpy’s the last of the epic runs

Although some runners will continue to compete in events in the Lower Mainland, the end of the season for most locals is the annual Lumpy’s Epic trail run in Pemberton, on Oct. 19.

The run is based out of One Mile Lake, and follows the black diamond Lumpy’s Epic Trail up and around a series of rock bluffs that look out over the Green River, the airport and Mt. Currie, before descending back to the One Mile Lake Loop and the finish line. The distance is roughly 10 km from start to finish. Squamish’s Aarond Heidt set a course record last year, finishing the course in 39 minutes, 46 seconds.

Registration gets underway at 9 a.m. at One Mile Lake Sunday, Oct. 19, and the race starts at 10 a.m. The cost to enter is $15, with all proceeds going to local community organizations.

The race attracts a wide range of participants, from hardcore trail runners, to dog walkers who can opt for a shorter course. All participants should have good trail shoes to grip the rocks and roots, and be ready for some technical terrain.

As always, participants are invited to bring food and beverages to the post-race potluck.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering this year should call Anna at 604-966-8460 or Arlene at 604-894-0175.
