On- and off-mountain events; pro athlete meet and greets planned
Real Wild Kittens
Whistler's own Real Wild Kittens will be hosting a girls skate session on Saturday, July 16 as part of Oakley Week: Summer Edition.

To celebrate the summer season, the sport performance brand Oakley is hosting Oakley Week in Whistler from Thursday, July 14 to Sunday July 17.

The four-day event kicks off with a WORCA Toonie Challenge Enduro Race on Thursday, which will be open to the public for viewing. On Friday there will be an on-mountain mini ramp skate session featuring pro skateboarder Eric Koston and Curran Caples of the Skate Mental team, located at Showcase Snowboards in the Sundial hotel. Following the skate session, which takes place from 4 to 9 p.m., there will be a kickoff party at Garfinkel's.

Saturday will feature an Initiation to Skate event with youth sessions from 9 to 11 a.m. hosted by the Whistler Skateboard Club, a girls session hosted by the Real Wild Kittens from 12 to 2 p.m. and an Open Jam from 3 to 6 p.m. Following the skate jam, there will be a Dual Slalom race at the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, open to all who want to compete.

Capping off the weekend, locals and visitors are invited to pop by the Oakley store in Whistler Village Thursday through Sunday for product demos, bike tuning, refreshments and to hang out with Oakley sponsored athletes like Mark and Craig McMorris, Sage Kotsenberg, Jamie Anderson and Sean Petit, among others.

"A heritage rooted in mountain sports, Oakley will bring the brand to Whistler Blackcomb and provide a series of on- and off-hill events that extend across sport performance verticals, offering opportunities for consumers to live the Oakley experience, connect with Team Oakley athletes and test the latest lineup of Oakley products," read a press release from Taylor Smith, account executive for M&S Saatchi Sport and Entertainment.
