Time has flown by, but the 2022/23 winter finale is upon us at the Whistler Sliding Centre (WSC).
Passenger bobsled sessions will be offered for one more week until Apri 9, where members of the public experience speeds of up to 125 kilometres an hour and four g-forces of acceleration as they hurtle down a world-class track, driven by a trained pilot. I've had the opportunity to ride one for myself and it is certainly a unique experience worth checking out.
One last public skeleton session is available on Sunday, and luge beginners will be training from Tuesday until Thursday.
This summer, the WSC will again be operating its public summer bobsleigh activity, in sleds on wheels! The season will start on July 1 and proceed until Sept. 3. Like in past summers, youth will slide free together with a paying adult.
It's been a great season for local sliding athletes. Three Whistler-based lugers have each knocked down career milestones, while a skeleton racer made her Junior World Championships debut. A small group of youth athletes have begun their journey to the 2024 Youth Winter Olympic Games as well.
