The 2025 U19 Garbanzo DH podium, left to right: Pedro Abrigo, Mateo Quist, Indy Deavoll and Jack Hague.

Mateo Quist distinguished himself in the U19 men's Garbanzo Downhill (DH) with a time of 13:25.194. That put him well ahead of runner-up Pedro Abrigo (13:40.042) and Jack Hague in third (14:28.892).

Quist is happy for a measure of redemption after Sunday's Canadian Open Enduro did not go according to plan.

"I raced the enduro and blew a wheel up on the longest stage about five seconds in," he said. "[Garbo] was probably the hardest race I've done in a while. I've been racing DH races this whole year and that was harder than anything I've done. Super physical.

"I just tried to reset my mind. It was pretty hot [on Monday] so a lot of water, a lot of electrolytes…definitely taking the top chill to pace myself for the bottom. [I was] basically in the pain cave the whole time. These are the main gnarly trails on Garbanzo: the most physical, the most rocky, the most raw and gnarly stuff. I know them pretty well, but just not used to racing them top to bottom."

Ruby Wells proved to be the class of the U17 girls' field (14:47.612). Leah Macartney earned silver but wasn't within striking distance of gold (15:50.130), and Nory Klein took bronze (16:08.547).

"It was an exhausting track, but overall, it was really fun," commented Wells. "I just needed to drink lots of water and stay out of the sun. I think it's kind of sketchy doing some of those tech trails at really high speeds, but it's a good experience."

Mack Manietta (13:19.857) had one of his longest days in recent memory: Garbo followed by dual slalom. He didn't flinch, blowing U15 second-placer Bernardo Gomes away by more than a minute (14:27.975). Nash Furneaux held onto the final podium spot (14:39.598).

Among U15 girls, Madeline Lloyd won (15:00.887) but Megan Pretorius faced the most hardship. An early technical issue led to her rear wheel locking up almost entirely, and the Kamloops resident did well to finish at all—let alone grab silver (15:37.088). Bronze went to Mayumi Wakefield (16:44.795).

Indy Deavoll (16:10.043) was the lone U19 woman in action, and Travis Goller (13:39.768) topped the U17 boys' podium over Danny Ng (13:47.088) and Ben Horswill (13:56.772).

Other division champs include Daniel Molina (senior men), Sianna Roka (senior women), Adrian Martinez (masters men), Katherine Barry (masters ladies), Shane Gayton (veteran men) and Dawn Cashen (veteran women).
