West Side Wheel Up Saturday

The ninth annual West Side Wheel Up mountain bike race takes place this Saturday, Sept. 7, and is open to anyone.

The ninth annual West Side Wheel Up mountain bike race takes place this Saturday, Sept. 7, and is open to anyone.

It begins with a mass start through the puddles on the old Millar Creek Road in Function Junction, and heads up Alta Lake Road to the Lower Sproatt Trail. After some climbing and descending, the trail links up with the new subdivision and heads to Beaver Pass and back to Alta Lake Road. After a short but exciting loop of Bob’s ReBob, the riders do a complete circuit of A River Runs Through It and then head back to the finish at Rainbow Park for a barbecue and beverages.

It costs $20 to enter, which includes draw prizes as well as food and drinks at the post-race party. The top draw prize will once again be a season’s pass for Whistler-Blackcomb.

For the second year in a row, proceeds from the race go towards the B.C. Disabled Ski Team.

A registration desk will be set up at the start line at the northwest corner of Highway 99 and the entrance to Function Junction. Registration will open at 10:30 a.m. and the race starts at 1 p.m.
