Racers hit the water for the Whistler X Triathlon in 2021.

On June 11, in Lost Lake park, the Whistler Triathlon Club will be hosting the inaugural XTERRA Trail Run.

The race, which is part of the XTERRA Whistler triathlon weekend, is a “fun yet challenging 15-km course, using a mix of the XTERRA Whistler Bike course and then some of the additional Lost Lake ‘Zappa’ trails,” according to the race’s website.

The race will start at the XTERRA Whistler HQ located at Lost Lake beach at 7:30 a.m. and costs participants $45 plus a Triathlon BC One Day Membership Fee.

There will be no parking available at Lost Lake Park on race day, but the race’s start and finish point are easily accessible by the Valley Trail, and just a short walk or bike ride from Whistler Village.

Participants can register for the Trail Run at the XTERRA Whistler website, while the race’s full course can be found on FatMat.

Following the trail run, on Sunday, June 12, the BC Cross Triathlon Championships will be taking place at the same Lost Lake location in the form of the 2022 XTERRA Whistler race.

This year’s triathlon will feature a $3,000 prize purse for the Pro/Elite categories with $750, $500 and $250 dollar prizes being given out for Men’s and Women’s first-, second- and third-place finishers, respectively.

Those looking to enter the race in the elite category should email their elite status to rd@endurancespecific.com.

The XTERRA Whistler cross triathlon will be a qualifying event for both the XTERRA World Cahmpionships in Lake Molveno, Trentino, Italy on Oct. 1 and 2, 2022, and the 2023 ITU World Championships in Ibiza, Spain.

Registration for the triathlon can also be found at whistlertriathlon.com.
