Sunshine Coast RCMP investigating after cyclist injured in Lower Gibsons

Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating after a cyclist was injured in Lower Gibsons on Wednesday morning. A press release from the police said the incident involves a garbage truck.

Gibsons & District Volunteer Fire Department assistant fire chief Richard White said they were called to Burns Road around 10 a.m. The volunteer firefighters arrived just behind an ambulance, and found a 94-year-old man lying on the ground in critical condition. 

Two fire trucks were used to secure a helicopter landing zone at Elphinstone Secondary School to take the man to the hospital. A press release from the RCMP said the driver remained on scene and is cooperative. 

The Sunshine Coast RCMP have secured the area on Burns Road between Harmony Lane and Truman Road, and are asking people to avoid that area.
