Don’t engage with impersonator, says family of Michael Dunahee

A man is impersonating Michael Dunahee — who went missing in 1991 at the age of four — and asking for money, says his family

Michael Dunahee’s family is warning the public about a man who is impersonating Michael and asking for money.

In a social media post, the family says it’s working with police to get the man some help.

“Some of you may have noticed some posts or been contacted directly by a fellow recently claiming to be Michael. We can confirm he is not,” the post said. “Please do not engage in conversations with him, and most importantly, please do not send him money as he was requesting.”

Four-year-old Michael Dunahee disappeared from the playground at Blanshard Elementary School on March 24, 1991.

Despite more than 10,000 tips over three decades and one of the largest police investigations in Canadian history, the case remains unsolved.

In 2021, to mark 30 years since he was last seen, investigators released an age-enhanced sketch created by B.C. RCMP forensic sketch artist Cpl. Virginia Bernier showing Michael as he may have appeared at age 34.

Victoria police also launched vicpd.ca/michaeldunaheetips — a dedicated online tip portal. Hundreds of tips have been received and continue to be investigated, police say.
