A dangerous stunt was filmed and shared on social media showing a person driving a personal watercraft dangerously close to a BC Ferries vessel.

The video was posted on TikTok and Instagram on June 12 under the account 'takeme.boating' and shows a person driving a jet ski right under the stern of a moving ferry in Howe Sound.

BC Ferries confirmed it has seen the video and is taking it seriously.

"Regardless of the vessel involved, operating a personal watercraft that close to a ferry is extremely dangerous and puts both the rider and others at serious risk,” said senior communications advisor Shiryn Sayani.

The incident did occur near the Sunshine Coast.

The BC Ferries route runs between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale terminal with the Queen of Coquitlam and Queen of Surrey vessels.

"We’re reviewing the footage internally and have reported the incident to the Sunshine Coast RCMP, who are investigating,” said Sayani.

"This type of behaviour is illegal under federal marine safety regulations,” she said, adding safety on and around their vessels is a top priority.

"We urge all watercraft users to keep a safe distance and follow marine navigation rules at all times.”

The video has been viewed more than 724,000 times.
