According to the government, the aim of the federal program is to provide meaningful work for Sea to Sky youth who may not otherwise have an easy time finding employment.

Hey, corridor youth — need a summer job?

The government has announced over 350 job opportunities for youth, specifically available to residents of West Vancouver, Sunshine Coast, and Sea to Sky Country.

The investment of over a million dollars will result in over 98,000 working hours for the job recipients.

This year, Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ)  is prioritizing projects that support youth who have not completed high school or who are not currently enrolled in an education or training program, as well as Black, Indigenous and racialized young people, youth with disabilities, and youth from the LGBTQ2+ community.

"By providing all youth equitable opportunities to develop their skills, CSJ can help them to succeed in the job market,” reads a news release.

There are a variety of jobs available, which reflect priorities that were recently identified by the government: environmental protection, not-for-profit organizations, small businesses, visible minorities and the agriculture sector.

“Through Canada Summer Jobs, hundreds of youth in our community will receive important work experience this summer, allowing them to develop the foundational skills they will need to succeed in their chosen careers. Helping young people find valuable job experiences is also a boon for our local businesses and not-for-profit organizations. We are proud to deliver this program in our region, which represents an investment in our young people and in the future of our community and country,” said MP Patrick Weiler in the release .

Young people between the ages of 15 and 30 can find opportunities in their community on jobbank.gc.ca/youth and through the Job Bank mobile app
