A food-conditioned bear has prompted authorities to indefinitely shut down Levette Lake.

Recreation Sites and Trails BC has posted on its website that the bear is seeking food from campers and entering tents to acquire it.

Authorities are reminding people to use bear-aware camping practices, which involve securing food and garbage.

Food should never be kept in a tent, and wildlife should never be fed.

When it’s not closed, Levette Lake offers nine campsites. Part of the area is covered by undeveloped forest, and features beautiful mountain views.

This is not the first time a bear prompted the shutdown of a recreation area.

Cat Lake was recently reopened after a food-condition bear in the area caused officials to shut it down.
