A bear alert has been issued over a sow and three cubs showing defensive behaviour in the Lost Lake area.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) issued a bear alert Wednesday, July 28 after reports of a sow with cubs showing defensive behaviour near Lost Lake.

The Conservation Officer Service (COS) has received reports of the sow with three cubs acting defensively and bluff-charging someone in the Lost Lake area. The alert reminds bystanders to give the bears lots of space and to never approach any bear you come across.

Residents of White Gold are asked to be extra vigilant and to ensure all attractants are secured. Barbecues should be cleaned thoroughly, birdfeeders taken down and any food or garbage should not be left accessible near your property.

Wildlife issues can be reported to the COS' RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277, with early reporting encouraged as it allows the COS to intervene before a bear becomes habituated and haze the animal out of the area, if necessary.
