Safety alert: Canada-wide recall of mugs due to 'burn and laceration hazard'

The company has received multiple reports of issues in Canada.

Health Canada warns that a couple of branded mugs have been recalled from a popular bookstore chain due to burn and laceration hazards.

A safety notification issued Wednesday (Nov. 23) states that several batches of Indigo-branded Papa Bear and Mama Bear ceramic mugs have been recalled from stores across the country due to burn and laceration hazards.

The mugs "may crack or break when filled with hot liquid," potentially burning or cutting the person holding them. As of Sept. 27, the company has received eight incident reports in Canada of the mug cracking while in use but there have been no reports of injuries.

In Canada, the company sold 7,326 units of the affected Papa Bear mug and 8,867 units of the affected Mama Bear mug between December 2020 and May 2022.

The mugs have a white exterior with a black print decal on the side bearing “Papa Bear” or “Mama Bear” and ears on the rim. The batch numbers are printed on the bottoms.
