Serious crash impacts traffic, ferry service in Tsawwassen

Closures and detour in effect

A serious collision has caused massive traffic delays in Tsawwassen Saturday afternoon.

Just after 11 a.m., first responders were called to a collision at Highway 17 and Tsawwassen Drive between a motorcyclist travelling northbound and an SUV.

Paramedics treated and transported the motorcyclist to hospital which are believed to be serious injuries.

Delta police were on scene until officers in the RCMP BC Highway Patrol assumed conduct of the investigation scene while the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was called and are now jointly investigating the collision.

According to freelance photographer Shane MacKichan, ferry traffic has been greatly affected with dozens of pedestrians who had to walk to 56th Street.

According to DriveBC, a traffic detour is in effect for travellers heading to the BC Ferry Terminal: Salish Drive to Blue Heron Way, to Tsawwassen Drive.

Expect major delays getting to and from the ferry terminal.
