The Shovelnose Creek fire continues to be monitored for hot spots more than two weeks after it began.

BC Wildfire Service firefighters continue to patrol the wildfire at Shovelnose Creek in the Squamish Valley for hot spots.

The fire, which began on May 13, remains under control as it has since late last week.

Under control is defined as “a wildfire that will not spread any further due to suppression efforts.”

The monitoring will continue until the fire is officially called out, according to a spokesperson for the Coastal Fire Centre.

The fire size has remained unchanged for the last week and is still 38 hectares.

"We will continue to ask residents to avoid any area where there is an active wildfire — a fire is considered to be active until it is called out, and we do not have a prediction currently as to when that may be," the spokesperson said.

This fire is believed to have been human-caused.

Previously, the fire centre said that if any individuals had information about the cause, then they could reach out to the Ministry of Forests Compliance and Enforcement Program located online, call 1-877-952-7277, or #7277 on a cellphone.
