Viral video compares Vancouver house prices to celebrity mansions and it's not pretty

Would you rather a home in Mount Pleasant or Jason Derulo's mansion?

A new viral TikTok video pokes fun at Vancouver housing prices, comparing them to celebrity mansions for sale.

A Vancouver local took to social media to create a video comparing our house prices to celebrity mansions for sale.

The video was based on a 2016 article from Elle Decor, so the rates should be taken with a pinch of salt, given inflation and the difference between the U.S. and Canadian dollar.

Some of the celebrity homes were listed for big bucks, like Tom Cruise's Telluride estate for $59M, while others were practically affordable by Vancouver standards. Singer Jason Derulo and former Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz had massive mansions listed for under $3M.

The Vancouver TikToker compared Derulo's seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in Coconut Creek, Florida, to an old-looking four-bed, three-bath for sale in Mount Pleasant for $100,000 more.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski's 4,177-square-foot California home is listed for $3.25M compared to a home on Main Street that's half the size but listed for the same amount.

Perhaps the most famous name on the list, Britany Spears, sold her Thousand Oaks mansion for $7.9M while in the middle of her Vegas residency. That kind of money could buy you a five-bedroom, eight-bathroom (who needs that many?) Point Grey home in Vancouver.

In recent celebrity real estate news, Mick Jagger has put his Florida home on the market for $3.5M, more than a million over what he originally paid in 2020 but still consistent with housing prices in Vancouver.

When celebrity real estate agents Jason Oppenheim and Mary Bonnet (Fitzgerald) of Selling Sunset were in town last week, they confirmed that Vancouver is more expensive than L.A., unfortunately for us.
