OTTAWA — The Ottawa Aces have added six-foot-seven, 275-pound prop Adam Lawton for their inaugural 2021 season.

Lawton, 27, arrives from fellow League 1 side Newcastle Thunder. He is the 18th player to sign for Ottawa.

The Aces are scheduled to begin play in the third-tier of English rugby league next year.

A product of the Widnes Vikings junior system, Lawton made his Widnes first-team debut in 2013 at 20.

He spent time on loan with the North Wales Crusaders, another League 1 club, before moving to Australia to play in the Queensland Cup competition for Redcliffe Dolphins. Lawton joined the Salford Red Devils of Super League in November 2018, seeing limited action.

He had loan spells at League 1's Rochdale Hornets and Swinton Lions before signing with Newcastle last November.

Ottawa coach Laurent Frayssinous called Lawton's signing "a massive coup for the club.”

“(His) physical attributes will bring to the team another dimension. His ability to break the defence is second to none.”
