American man detained after alleged attempt to enter Canada by kayak: police

Police in LaSalle, Ont., say an American man was detained after he allegedly tried to illegally enter Canada by kayak early Wednesday morning.

Police in LaSalle, Ont., say an American man was detained after he allegedly tried to illegally enter Canada by kayak early Wednesday morning.

LaSalle police say it happened when an officer was conducting commercial property checks in the city's west end at around 1 a.m.

They say the officer was checking the rear of a business when he spotted a man with two backpacks and a kayak at the shore of the Detroit River.

Police allege the 51-year-old man from the United States was attempting to illegally enter Canada.

Police say he was detained and turned over to the RCMP for further investigation.
