Congratulations to the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) on marking 50 years of service to the community. This milestone is an opportunity to reflect on the past, but also to look forward to the future of our municipality.
As the RMOW begins its next chapter, I hope to see a renewed commitment to fostering psychologically safe, healthy, and respectful workplaces. A strong organization is built on trust, not fear. It requires leaders who avoid micromanagement, who support autonomy, and who trust employees to use their skills and judgment. It also requires a culture where safety and well-being are prioritized every day—not just in public statements, but in the way staff are treated when no one is looking.
Healthy workplaces are the foundation for a healthy community. By reducing unnecessary red tape, empowering staff with the freedom to do their work effectively, and consistently supporting psychological safety, the RMOW can set a positive example for municipalities across British Columbia.
Here’s to the next 50 years—may they be defined by innovation, trust, and workplaces where people truly feel supported.
