MONTREAL — Police say a man was killed and two others injured today in a crash in a western Montreal suburb where speed was possibly a contributing factor.

Police say the collision occurred at roughly 3:45 a.m. in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, an on-island suburban city, waking up local residents and prompting calls to 911.

Const. Caroline Chèvrefils says when Montreal police officers arrived, first responders were already removing the occupants of the vehicle.

A 26-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, while the driver of the vehicle and the other occupant, both 27-year-old men, were taken to hospital.

Chèvrefils says the vehicle may have been travelling at a high speed before slamming into a tree.

The crash remains under investigation as police try to determine what happened.
