The 2013 Pemberton budget was passed at the regular council meeting of May 7.

The budget brings in a two per cent cost-of-living tax rise and a special $150 parcel tax, to be repeated in the 2014 budget, to cover the village's half of the costs and upkeep of the Pemberton Community Centre. The Five Year Financial Plan also passed.

Council also received the audited findings for the village's financial statements ending Dec. 31, 2012 produced for the VOP by accountants MNP. The Consolidated Financial Statements for the same period was also received.

PVUS appointment review requested

Council has asked staff to prepare a letter from Mayor Jordan Sturdy to the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, requesting a review of appointment terms of reference for the Pemberton Valley Utilities & Services Committee.

Sturdy said they wanted greater flexibility in terms of appointments to the committee. Traditionally, the Village of Pemberton council has appointed the mayor to the SLRD Board with the alternate being a council member. Currently this is Sturdy and Councillor Ted Craddock.

The VOP would like to be allowed to appoint any of the five councillors to the committee and wants to have this added to the agenda of the next SLRD meeting.

Last call recreation feasibility input

In his mayor's report, Sturdy said it was the last opportunity for members of the public to participate in the VOP's recreation feasibility study, which will determine the priorities in recreation services and amenities in the coming years.

Those wanting a say can go online at http://haveyoursay.pemberton.ca/ by May 31. Sturdy said the VOP would also send representatives to discuss the study with small groups of interested residents.
