The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has found its new chief administrative officer (CAO).

In a July 14 release, the SLRD revealed that Melany Helmer would step into the role starting Sept. 8. Helmer comes from the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, where she also served as CAO. During her time there, she oversaw projects such as the launch of Highway 16 Transit Service while also directing the local emergency operations centre during the 2018 wildfire season.

“I am excited to join the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District team and look forward to getting to know my colleagues and becoming part of the SLRD team,” Helmer said in a release. "It is an honour and a pleasure to serve the SLRD in collaboration with the dedicated Board and staff. My family and I are looking forward to enjoying the amazing year-round recreational activities in the region recognized as a world-class destination for residents and tourists alike.”

Helmer takes over for Lynda Flynn, who resigned in February to move to the Okanagan.

Director of Legislative and Corporate Services Kristen Clark has served as interim CAO and will continue to do so until Helmer starts.
