Tourism Pemberton held its annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday Feb. 21.

Sitting around a board table at in a Blackcomb Helicopters building at the Pemberton Regional Airport, Mark Mendonca—who was acclaimed president—sounded a positive note about the upcoming year

"This is the biggest AGM that we've had in the last six years in terms of people," he said. "And I'd venture to say that this is the most things we've put on the table in a number of years."

The group's ongoing initiatives are largely aimed at securing long-term, sustainable funding and enticing tourists visiting Whistler to make the trip north to beautiful Pemberton—and hopefully stay for a couple days.

In 2019, the organization will revamp its website to include more relevant and timely information and add a point-of-sales system that will allow people to book services from Tourism Pemberton members directly.

The organization is also looking at ways to illustrate the value of tourism in Pemberton is big business, something it feels will help it in its efforts to secure long-term funding.

It has engaged Pacific Analytics Inc. to carry out a study on its economic impact.

With Tourism Pemberton board members working collaboratively to take on a wealth of projects, Mendonca said he is confident that 2019 will be a banner year.

"I know we have a strong board, and we are going to make a big difference this year," he said.

"We need to make sure that the communities around us understand we contribute a lot and that we are going to fight for our fair share."
