Hollywood heavyweight Mark Ruffalo is sharing his support for the Fairy Creek Blockade on social media, encouraging people to sign a petition to protect B.C.'s ancient forests.

The Avengers star shared a post on Facebook Thursday (June 3) where he wrote that he is grateful for the time he spent filming in Vancouver over the winter when he got to "experience ancient old-growth cedar trees that were over 2,000 years old."

The actor had been in B.C. earlier this year to film The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Garner; the Netflix production shot all around the Lower Mainland.

This week, Ruffalo asked his follows to join him in supporting the Fairy Creek Blockade and stopping the logging of old-growth forests in the Pacheedaht and Dididaht territories. He also shared a link to a Change.org petition calling for an end to old-growth logging in B.C.

"Sign the petition here to demand that John Horgan and BC NDP keep their promise to protect these ancient forests!" he wrote.

At the time of this writing, the petition has been signed nearly 60,000 times.
