The World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) is announcing the return of its multimedia programming for 2024.
Like in previous years, the 72-Hour Filmmaker Showdown challenges teams to shoot, edit, and produce a three to five-minute short film within the allotted time. Submissions should be shot within 100 kilometres of Whistler, and there are no restrictions on recording devices.
A first-place prize of $5,000 and the coveted People’s Choice award are again on the line. Applications are now open and will close a week before the filming window, which is March 29 to April 1.
Ryan Proctor, Kris Dontas and Kevin Dontas won the 2023 showdown with their submission: Would You Rather.
Meanwhile, photographers from across the Pacific Northwest are invited to apply for the Sea to Sky Photo Challenge. Four individuals will be hand-selected by the judges, while remaining applicants will compete for one wild card slot through fan voting.
The five finalists will showcase their portfolios before a live audience, judged by an esteemed panel of award-winning commercial and editorial photographers. The Best In Show photographer will claim a $3,000 cash prize, as Tyler Ravelle did last year.
Intersection is a snowsports focused video contest that encourages crews to push boundaries, and is an invite-only event in 2024. Judges will select the top five contenders, granting them a 12-day window to shoot, edit, and submit a four to six-minute winter action sports edit filmed within British Columbia. Industry experts and the audience will serve as judges.
The winner will receive $10,000 in cash, with second place earning $5,000 cash, and third place awarded $2,000. Geoff Brown’s gang prevailed last year with Out of Service, their mountain culture spoof of South Park.
