Arts Whistler has outlined an autumn of arts action during its second annual Fall for Arts.
A kick-off event starting on Thursday, Aug. 31, launches four days of free activities around the resort, including the Bizarre and Beautiful Art Show at the Maury Young Arts Centre gallery launching at 6 p.m. on Aug. 31, singer Jann Arden in concert on Friday, Sept. 1, at 7:30 p.m., indie band The Boom Booms in concert on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Both shows are free and take place at Whistler Olympic Plaza.
Hear and Now — Whistler's Local Music Festival returns on Sept. 23 and 24 with two days of Whistler and Sea to Sky talent. The line-up will be announced at a later date.
ArtWalk, Whistler's highly successful annual pairing of visual art and local businesses and communities, is changing this year into We Heart Local Art.
"It's different from ArtWalk (which ran for three months in 2016) in that it is now going to be an evolving year-round program," says Jillian van der Geest of Arts Whistler.
"It's like an online dating service for businesses and artists. If a business is looking to fill their walls, we can put them in touch with an artist who can do that."
Other events as part of Fall for Arts include the Whistler Village Beer Festival (Sept. 13 to 17), BC Culture Days (Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1), Whistler Writers Festival (Oct. 12 to 15), Cornucopia (Nov. 9 to 19), Arts Whistler Holiday Market (Nov. 25 and 26), and Whistler Film Festival (Nov. 29 to Dec. 3).

WFF Countdown Benefit honourees named
Actor Aleks Paunovic, producers Christine Haebler and Trish Dolman, Michelle Ouellette, Reunion Pictures owner Tom Rowe, and producers Cynde and Allan Harmon are being honoured at this year's Celebrate WFF: Countdown Benefit in support of the Whistler Film Festival Society.
The event, WFF's annual summer party, is taking place at Big Rock Brewery in Vancouver on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. to mark the 14-week countdown to WFF's 17th edition from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, and to raise funds to support programs for Canadian film talent, including industry initiatives and labs.
Tickets are available for $75 until Aug. 23, and $95 at the door.
