Whistler Chalets’ parent company, ResortQuest International, is trying to differentiate itself from another company with a similar name.

The Memphis-based property rental company wants to make clear it is in no way to connected to the Ontario-based Resort Quest. The latter recently came under the scrutiny of the television program W-Five for some questionable time-share operations.

ResortQuest International President and CEO, David Levine, notes that the two conduct completely different types of business and he is commencing an action to block the Ontario company from implying that the two firms share any kind of business relationship.

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is re-introducing their community spring fair. Formerly known as May Days, the intention of Business Bash 2001 is to acquaint residents and second home owners with Whistler’s rapidly expanding commercial centres.

This year’s schedule will include live entertainment, merchant specials, featured menus, activities, contests and prizes. A Business Bash Pass will encourage consumers to visit outlets around the valley to collect stamps and be entered into the grand prize draw.

All local merchants and community groups are invited to participate by offering in-store draws, promotions, or by co-ordinating a demonstration or special attraction.

To register or for more information about the June 2 event, contact Kasi Lubin at The Whistler Chamber of Commerce at 932-5922.

Two-time Olympian and Whistler Freeride Team captain, John Smart, is preparing to showcase his clothing line to the world. Designed locally and made in Vancouver, SMS is in its fifth year of production, but this is the first time it will be showcased at the prestigious SIA trade show in Las Vegas. Until now, Smart says his line was primarily inspired by and sold to participants in his summer ski camps. Distribution was largely underground by word of mouth. Smart says he’s excited about the potential international retail buyers that will be present at the SIA show.

This year’s collection includes four new styles of jackets and pants in seven different colours. If you can’t make it to Vegas, check out their showroom in Function Junction or view the merchandise online at www.smsclothing.com.

Be watching for a new train on the tracks between Vancouver and Prince George. BC Rail is launching a new luxury service this spring. The Whistler Northwind seeks to envelope passengers in awe-inspiring landscapes with service to soothe the soul. The service will operate May through October.
