National Indigenous Peoples Day brings many activities and events at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is on Sept. 30, and the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) will be ready with a full slate of programs leading up to the big day.

On Sept. 13, Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino brings guest speakers Filipe Armstrong and Claudio Alvarado Lincopi to an event dubbed "Museums and Indigenous Languages: Limits and Possibilities."

Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Jody Wilson-Raybould drops by on Sept. 17 for a session exploring the difference between performative reconciliation and tangible, impactful actions.

Then on Sept. 22, the SLCC opens the Spo7ez Online Auction Fundraiser, inviting guests to bid on more than a hundred experiences and products donated by the Sea to Sky business community in support of cultural revitalization. Three days later, the Whistler Chamber Après will be held.

Programming meant for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation itself include Spo7ez Cultural Sharing at Whistler Olympic Plaza at 10 a.m., the Curator Tour, the Guest Speaker Series and three major exhibitions. "What We Treasure" received major storyboard upgrades during spring 2025, "Legends of the Land" depicts the passing-down of traditional knowledge across generations, and an interactive net-making exhibit shows visitors how the Squamish and Lil'wat people constructed nets to fish.

The SLCC encourages community members and guests to show support by wearing orange to honour the children, survivors and families of residential schools.
