Fundraiser to be held for injured snowbiler

Professional snowboarder hurt when sledding with friends in February

On Feb. 19, professional snowboarder Chris Brown went snowmobiling with some friends. While attempting to land a drop he was forced off the difficult line due to the axis of the snowpack.

He jumped from the vehicle to avoid colliding with trees but landed feet first into one anyway. He then dropped about 55 feet, landing on his back on the snow below.

He's currently recovering at Vancouver General Hospital after suffering fractured vertebras, a shattered heel, a fractured tibia and fibula, a shattered pelvis, torn abdominal muscles, a fractured coccyx bone, a lacerated bladder, and internal bleeding. The list goes on.

Geoff Kyle, a friend of Brown's who was there when the accident happened, said he has a long road to recovery. So, to keep his mind away from the financial costs of a lengthy healing process, Kyle has organized a fundraiser at Dusty's on Tuesday, March 8.

The entire music line-up has yet to be confirmed but so far Whole Lotta Led will be playing, along with Paul "Mixmasterfab" Fournier. More performers will be announced over the coming week.

There will be a massive silent auction with donations from Whistler backcountry operators, local art galleries, and other local businesses. The auction will be held from 8 - 10 p.m.

There will also be a raffle draw from a long list of Whistler businesses, including Sushi Village, The Love Nest and Whistler Brewery, which will be drawn at 11 p.m.

Cost of entry is a minimum $10 donation and raffle tickets are one for $20 or three for $50. If anyone is unable to make the fundraiser, they can still support Brown by emailing donations via online banking to slednecksbrown@hotmail.com .

Any donations towards the Silent Auction or Raffle can be mailed or dropped off to #437 - 106 - 4368 Main St, Whistler, BC, V0N 1B4, Attention: Chris Brown's Throw Down Fundraiser.
