Goh Ballet brings Nutcracker to Whistler

Toy soldiers, a little girl, and really bad rats make up this classic ballet

The internationally acclaimed Goh Ballet brings to Whistler the longstanding Christmas tradition of The Nutcracker ballet Friday, Dec. 22 and Saturday, Dec. 23 at MY Millennium Place.

The award-winning Vancouver ballet company brings the story of a little girl named Clara who unwraps a nutcracker at Christmas that leads her on a magical adventure. Toy soldiers rescue Clara from the Mouse King while the Land of Sweets grants her warm welcome from the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The fairy ballet, composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, contains memorable melodies such as The Trepak (Russian dance), Waltz of the Flowers, March and Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy.

The Nutcracker is the most popular ballet performed at Christmas.

Tickets go on sale for both evening and matinee performances Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the MY Place box office or ticketmaster.ca. Tickets are $37.50 for adults and $17.50 for children under 12. Special student/senior and matinee prices are also available.
