Guitar is in the air

No talent? No worries, competition open to anyone

Who knew rocking out to your favourite album with your invisible guitar could ever be something that would take you out of your bedroom, let alone to an international competition embraced in 12 countries.

Canada is joining the international frenzy with the first ever Canuck Air Guitar competition coming to Whistler Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Garibaldi Lift Company.

Anyone can compete, as no special skills are required — not even a guitar, although competitors must decide between an electric or acoustic air guitar. The only thing competitors need is the ability to surrender to the music and live out a few minutes of rock star fame.

The competition will follow after an airing of Maple Picture’s Air Guitar Nation, a film featuring the titanic battle between two air rock gods, C-Diddy and Bjorn Turoque, competing at the World Air Guitar Championships in Finland. Maple Pictures is best known for Oscar-winner Crash and the horror franchise Saw.

Pick up a few pointers from the airman himself and register for the evening competition by visiting myspace.com/airguitarcanada.

Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is free.
