Beginning June 22 at 9:30 a.m., Kimiko Taguchi and her daughter Julia will host monthly Zumba classes at Hosteling International’s Cheakamus Crossing location.

These sessions are free of charge, but any donations made by participants will go towards the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) and its programs geared toward children, seniors and youth mental health.

Kimiko feels strongly about giving back because in the past, she received several WCSS grants that enabled her to put Julia into sports.

"Jackie Dickinson and WCSS helped my daughter and me when we were struggling to find funding for Julia’s activities," she says in a press release. "We wouldn’t be here now without the support of Jackie and WCSS."

As a certified Zumba instructor, Kimiko is qualified to teach bodyweight HITT (high-intensity tempo training) and circle mobility. Julia, meanwhile, is a University of Victoria kinesiology graduate and a certified personal trainer. The duo hope to emphasize fun, participation and community in their classes.

"You don’t need to be an athlete or have dance skills," Taguchi says. "It’s just about having fun and getting exercise with others."

No registration is needed. Contact Kimiko at [email protected] for more details.
