The Mountains of Art gala, one of the Pemberton Arts Council's (PAC) biggest fundraisers of the year, is set to return with food, music, and, of course, art on Saturday, Nov. 24.
Several artists will have work on display and for sale, just in time for the holiday season, says Penny Maclean, chair of the PAC. The event is again slated to take place at the Black Squirrel.
"This year we have some wonderful artists from sculpture to acrylic to photography, as well as our silent auction," Maclean says. "We've got some really great items up for bidding. One of the biggest is a trip to Belize."
The gala also offers locals a chance to dress up, socialize and raise some money for a good cause. "The more we can promote the arts and get people out the better," she says.
Last year, the event sold out and organizers are expecting a repeat. "We've also got live music," Maclean says. "It's going to be good. We're very excited."
Tickets for the event—which is running from 7 until 11 p.m.—are $25 on sale at the Pemberton Valley Supermarket. They're not online this year, but Maclean says those interested who can't get down to the supermarket can email [email protected].
Go to class with Arts-U
Arts Whistler is hosting a new event called Arts-U: From Inspired to Hired on Dec. 8 at the Maury Young Arts Centre.
Aimed at artists, performers and musicians, it will feature industry experts offering tricks of the trade. The list includes actor, musician and playwright Beverley Elliott sharing secrets to being a successful career performer; actor, director and writer Lorne Cardinal alongside interdisciplinary artist Monique Hurteau talking about presentation skills and audience rapport; veteran publicist and band manager Joanne Setterington offering insight into the music industry; Squamish marketing expert Jess Robson discussing self-promotion; and various gallerists—including Liz Harris from Adele Campbell Fine Art, Liz Peacock of Mountain Galleries Whistler and Pennylane Shen from Bau-Xi Gallery—offering information on how to develop your portfolio and gain gallery representation.
Finally, there will also be a session called Takin' Care of Business, to offer practical advice on artist contracts, finances and paying taxes.
The program is set for 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. The cost is $50 for Arts Whistler members and $75 for non-members. For more information visit artswhistler.com/arts-u.
Whistler Waldorf School hosts winter faire
Get ready to enjoy some treats, crafts and winter fun at the Whistler Waldorf School's annual Winter Faire on Dec. 8.
Running from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., events include candle dipping, natural crafts, puppet shows and a visit to the cookie house. There will also be seasonal treats and hot drinks for attendees to enjoy while they peruse the artisan market.
Admission is free and open to the public with food and activities priced separately.
