Though menopause impacts more than 10 million Canadian women over age 40, it remains misunderstood. A group of healthcare professionals are looking to change that.
Local registered massage therapist Tara Findlay will join Dr. Teresa Wood, Katrina Strand, Jordanna Nelson and Dana Elliott at the Maury Young Arts Centre for a screening of The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause. This PBS documentary outlines the effects of menopause and perimenopause.
"This is about more than hot flashes. It’s about advocating for better healthcare, busting myths, and making sure no woman gets dismissed with 'it’s just aging,'" says Findlay in an email to Pique Newsmagazine. "We’re sparking real conversations, and probably a few unexpected laughs along the way."
Findlay previously spoke at screenings in Vancouver, Galiano Island and Squamish, noting that "the response was incredible. Women, and their partners, are hungry for real talk and real solutions."
The M Factor will be shown on April 16 at 7 p.m., with a panel discussion featuring Findlay and company to follow at 8 p.m. Tickets and additional details are viewable here.
