A Delta man was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison this week after pleading guilty to a 2021 stabbing death in Whistler.
Dedaar Jhooty, 25, originally pleaded guilty in July 2024. He was sentenced July 8 in North Vancouver court. The court also imposed a DNA order and a lifetime firearms prohibition.
On Aug. 14, 2021, Sea to Sky RCMP were called to investigate an altercation outside the Listel Hotel near Whistler Village.
"The victim (Henry Garcia Molina) was waiting for a taxicab with a friend. A verbal altercation ensued between the victim, the friend, and another group of males. The altercation escalated and the victim was stabbed. The victim was transported to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation," a release from IHIT said at the time.
Molina was 26 years old. A fundraiser launched after his death raised more than $30,000.
Jhooty was identified following an investigation, and on June 23, 2022, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
“Mr. Garcia Molina had his whole life ahead of him which was taken away due to a senseless act of violence,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT, in a release on July 11. “Our thoughts continue to be with his family as the court proceedings come to a conclusion.”
