A Lower Mainland man in his late 20s was arrested after crashing a vehicle into a street pole near Whistler Village in the early hours of Monday, Oct. 11.

Whistler police say the single-vehicle collision took place at the intersection of Lorimer Road and Northlands Boulevard. Though the vehicle reportedly suffered extensive damage, neither the driver nor his passenger—a woman in her mid-20s—were injured in the crash. Suspecting that alcohol was involved, RCMP launched an impaired driving investigation and subsequently arrested the driver for failing to provide a breath sample.

He was later released on court documents, police say.

VEHICLE IMPOUNDED AFTER EXCESSIVE SPEEDER PULLED OVER

Pemberton RCMP pulled a vehicle off the road on Sunday evening, Oct. 10 after its driver was caught travelling double the speed limit.

Police say the vehicle was seen speeding at 166 km/h in an 80 km/h speed zone on Highway 99, near the Soo River Forest Service Road north of Whistler. RCMP pulled over the driver, an Alberta man in his early 30s, and administered a breathalyzer test.

“The driver’s test results displayed ‘Fail,’” police explained in a release. Along with a ticket for his excessive speeding violation, RCMP handed the driver a 90-day Immediate Road Side Prohibition and impounded his vehicle for a 30-day period.
