Temperatures in Whistler are forecasted to fall well below the seasonal average starting Monday, Feb. 21.

You might want to throw on an extra layer if you're heading up the mountain this week.

Temperatures in the valley are expected to drop significantly overnight starting Monday, when the wind chill will make a low of around minus 10 degrees C feel more like like minus 15 degrees C, according to Environment Canada. As an arctic air mass continues flowing through B.C.'s coast, those temperature will stick around into Tuesday morning, Feb. 22, before warming up to a more comfortable minus 7 degrees C in the afternoon and falling again to minus 14 degrees C overnight in the valley. At the Roundhouse/Rendezvous elevation, Tuesday will see a low of minus 16 degrees.

Conditions are predicted to get even chillier on Wednesday, when skiers and snowboarders will experience a high of minus nine degrees C and a low of minus 18 on the mountain. That translates into a high of of minus 4 in the valley, where it will drop to minus 13 degrees C overnight. Conditions in the coast mountains will return to milder, more seasonal temperatures toward the end of the week.

Typically at the end of February, Whistler's valley sees an average high hovering around the four-degree mark, while its average low is listed at approximately minus 4 degrees C.

Whistler's forecast is also calling for more sunny, clear skies throughout the week, with little chance of precipitation until the weekend.

On Monday, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound, warning of unusually cold temperatures and strong outflow winds.
