Pemberton firefighters taking part in BC Lung Foundation fundraiser

Adam Malpus and seven of his fellow firefighters are climbing the 48-storey Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre on Feb. 26

Pemberton's Deputy Fire Chief Adam Malpus and seven of his colleagues are ready to attend Climb the Wall, the BC Lung Foundation’s 22nd annual fundraiser at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre, for his first time. The team is going to scale the Wall’s 48-storey stairwell on Feb. 26, raising funds with every floor.

The unit, consisting of Malpus, Paul Stoker, Marek Obrucnik, Jordan Brown, Jon Campbell, Reece Roberts, Travis Harrison and Jackson Chinery, will perform the feat dressed in full firefighting gear.

“One of the reasons we do the Climb is to support an important cause and help raise awareness. And we love team challenges and healthy competition. It’s a great team building opportunity – it only took me an hour to recruit eight teammates!” said Malpus in a press release.

"We want to represent our department the best we can. We know people are watching, we want to set a good example for the rest of our members, and remind them that this is a great event for our training," he added.

This year, participants of all fitness levels will take on the climb, then celebrate at the “Glow” After Party: a neon/day-glow themed event including a gourmet brunch, a DJ, and Glow-themed entertainment. It’s a well-deserved reward after scaling one of Vancouver’s tallest buildings.

Funds raised from the 2023 edition of Climb the Wall will benefit the BC Lung Foundation’s newest initiative, its Asthma Education Centre (AEC). The AEC will provide age-appropriate education about asthma in person and virtually throughout the province, to help 100,000 BC kids and youth live a more normal life in spite of their asthma.
