Need an incentive to get back on your bike?

The Pemberton Off Road Cycling Association (PORCA) is preparing to host its 2025 30x30 cycling event. The association is challenging anyone with a bike to cycle for 30 minutes every day for 30 days, starting April 1, with the goal of boosting fitness, reducing carbon footprints and earning some prizes.

"We’re welcoming people of all ages, experiences and ability levels," wrote PORCA on their website. "All you need is something to pedal and a bit of persistence."

The event is open to PORCA members; membership for Adults (19 and up) costs $60. For kids, membership is $25. Once you're a member, register for the challenge through the association's website, then log your time every day into the database. Troubleshooting is available through the PORCA site.

"There will be two prize packs per week," according to PORCA. "One will be chosen from the participants highlighted on PORCA’s social feed that week, and one will be chosen from the participants who rode every day that week. Make sure to use #PORCA30X30 and tag @porcabikes when sharing on Instagram."

Be sure to check PORCA's Facebook and Instagram accounts weekly to see if you've won. All prizes are to be picked up from the Elevate Bike Shop in downtown Pemberton.

To be eligible for the grand prize, you need to ride all 30 days. The prize will be chosen at random from the list of entries, but PORCA said the more minutes you log, the better your chances.

Cycling for at least 30 minutes a day can increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance, according to the Mayo Clinic. A recent study by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health noted an active commute to work reduces the number of sick days and lowers the risk of long-term sickness absences among employees

Like every form of exercise, biking releases endorphins—feel-good chemicals that can help reduce stress and generate positive feelings. So, had a tough day at work? Throw on your helmet and pedal off those negative emotions.
